What Abdul is looking for
I want to work as part of a team that's obsessed with design, both the big picture and the small details. I want to work in a team where the smartest ideas don't come from me, so I can learn and be inspired. I want to sit in brainstorming sessions that last hourse because no one wants to stop. I want to work with people that are kind but direct with their criticism or praise. I want to be part of a company where design isn't seen as an afterthougt, but rather as a core duty to customers.
Why Abdul is exploring
I live in a country where product designer isn't even a recognized job title. Where design is considered a luxury, a nice-to-have, a maybe-if-we-have-the-time. It's time I made a change and started working at something that mattered, to me and the world.
What won't fit on a resume
I've built three solo ventures: - A consumer e-commerce brand around MBTI personality-based products, handling positioning, product, brand and web design, and marketing. - A small studio delivering web design and development projects for clients, mainly in the medical space. - A startup perks platform with a B2B model, offering access to hundreds of tools and discounts through incubators and accelerators. None of these were superhits, but I learned more in 4 years than I would have thought possible, and enjoyed every second of it.
