What Hamza is looking for
i want to own a full product on a small team. like, i'm the person building the applied AI system end to end, not just writing tickets someone else scoped out. integrating models into real products, wiring up inference pipelines, building agent systems that people actually use. i don't really care about frontend, i care about the systems underneath. i built an MCP server that connects Claude to my university's platforms and had 30+ users within a week, and that whole flow of noticing a problem, building the system, and watching people use it is when i lose track of time
Why Hamza is exploring
i'm starting at Shopify this summer as an SWE intern which i'm excited about, but i'm already thinking about winter 2027. most of what i've shipped so far has been frontend (React Native, Next.js) because it's the easiest way to get something in front of people, but it's not what actually excites me. i want to go deeper on applied AI and backend work at a startup where what i build actually matters. i'd way rather be employee #5 shipping fast than intern #200 at a big company
What won't fit on a resume
in grade 9 i built a food delivery service for students who couldn't leave campus. school shut it down. tried to build an indoor navigation system for my local university, they denied me the blueprints so i figured it out anyway. built Horizon, an MCP server with 30+ users that plugs Claude into university platforms with semantic search and vector embeddings, deployed on AWS. built LockIn, a macOS menubar app in Swift that detects procrastination, packaged it with Homebrew and set up a full CI pipeline. placed 2nd at YHack on the Polymarket track. merged a PR into KuzuDB's production C++ codebase as a high school intern (23 commits, 165 additions, 14 files). founded NeoDev League. 1,450+ GitHub contributions. i just build stuff constantly, it's kind of my default state.
