The story
What Priyamwada is looking for
I want to own the design of something that's still figuring out what it is and I want to be close enough to the problem that I'm in conversations with engineers, stakeholders and users before there's even a brief. I lose track of time when I'm figuring out how an AI system should behave in edge cases, the moments where the model does something unexpected and someone has to decide what that means for the interface. I've worked in that environment before. Tars was a bootstrapped startup with two designers including me. I reported directly to the CTO, shipped something every week and every feature got broken into V1, V2, Vn releases because that's just how you work in a fast-paced and ever changing AI world. I know what that pace feels like and I want to get back to it.
Why Priyamwada is exploring
I'm finishing my MS in HCI at Indiana University in May 2026 and I've been building toward this for a while. My internship at Rocket Mortgage last year was the closest I've gotten to the kind of work I want to do, designing AI interfaces, getting into roadmap conversations and working directly with engineers. I want that but more of it and earlier in the product lifecycle. I've been building side projects in the meantime to stay sharp and honest with myself about what I actually find interesting.
What won't fit on a resume
I shipped a constellation web app from a single sentence prompt. Two hours, Google Stitch to AI Studio to Vercel. I also built a collaborative musical instrument out of two Arduino robot arms for a class, two people control one arm each from a laptop touchpad and play notes together. I have a chess widget on my portfolio that maps each piece to a design principle because I kept seeing the connections and had to get them out of my head. None of these had a brief. That's probably the most honest thing I can tell you about how I work.
