The story

What Rodrigo is looking for

The days I lose track of time are the ones where I didn't know at 9am what I'd be working on by noon, not because things are chaotic, but because something real came up and I get to figure out the right move. My dream role has no clean job description: one moment I'm looking at a signal that says users are dropping off somewhere, the next I'm in a room with the product team sketching a fix, by end of day something has moved forward. What really pulls me in is being the connective tissue, translating what a customer is actually frustrated about into something an engineer can act on, or taking a business constraint and helping a designer understand why it matters. And I'm a builder by instinct, so when I spot a gap I don't just log a ticket. The dream is product-adjacent, with real ownership, close to users, and enough ambiguity that defining what to do next is part of the job.

Why Rodrigo is exploring

Two things, and I'll be straight about both. First, the leadership alignment in my current company isn't there. There's no clear conviction about where the business is going, so a lot of energy goes into circling back on decisions instead of actually building. I don't do well in that environment. I need to know we're moving somewhere, even if the path changes. Second, I've spent the last few years building products for clients. You do good work, ship something, and then move on to the next client. I want to be part of something I'm actually invested in. A product with its own users, its own roadmap, where the feedback loop is real and the work compounds over time. B2B or B2C, doesn't matter, I just want to feel like I'm building something, not delivering a project

What won't fit on a resume

At Jetpacks I built an internal PSA platform to replace Sage, tracks contractor hours, automates billing reconciliation, connects what was worked on which client project to what gets paid. Nobody asked me to build it, I just got frustrated enough with the existing tool that I scoped it, built it, and shipped it. That one saves us $12K+ a year, but honestly the part I'm proud of is that the team actually uses it. Outside of work, I've been going down two rabbit holes. One is a multiplayer fighting game I built for fun. Think DBZ-style, turn-based combat. The hardest part ended up being the art: I have zero drawing skills, so figuring out how to generate decent sprites with AI was its own project inside the project. Still a work in progress, but it taught me more about game state and real-time sync than anything else I've built. The other is DriveLogs, an iOS app I shipped for teenagers in the US to track their driving practice hours for their learner's permit. The build was the easy part. Right now I'm deep in the distribution challenge: how do you get parents to discover an app their kid needs, when the kid doesn't know they need it yet. Still looking for my first paying users, but I'm learning more about growth from this than from any course I could take.
