The story
What Stephan is looking for
I want to lead a small-to-mid-sized product engineering team where I can stay close to the product, the customer, and the technical tradeoffs. The ideal day-to-day is a mix of shaping product direction with founders/product/design, challenging architecture and API/platform decisions, helping engineers unblock delivery, improving release quality, and turning customer feedback and data into shipped improvements. I am most energized by teams that need to move faster without creating chaos: better rollout discipline, cleaner prioritization, stronger feedback loops, experimentation, mobile platform execution, and measurable customer or revenue impact.
Why Stephan is exploring
After 17 years in the Mercedes-Benz ecosystem, I am looking for a more direct builder/operator environment where the distance between decision, execution, customer feedback, and business impact is much shorter. I have led large-scale mobile and connected-service platforms, but I do not want my next chapter to be buried in corporate process or steering committees. I want to help a startup or scale-up build stronger product engineering execution: faster releases, better quality, clearer priorities, stronger experimentation, and teams that can scale without becoming bureaucratic.
What won't fit on a resume
The part that does not fully show on my resume is that I like connecting messy systems and turning them into something operational. Outside the formal role, I have been building advisory/consulting work around mobile platforms, connected products, experimentation, AI-enabled workflows, and engineering operating models. I also built an AI-driven SDLC concept to map where AI can accelerate product development and where human judgment still needs to stay in the loop, using tools like ChatPRD, Claude Code, Jira/Linear-style planning, Cursor, Playwright, GitHub reviews, and deployment workflows. I am not trying to position myself as a daily IC coder, but I like being close enough to the work to challenge assumptions, understand technical tradeoffs, and help teams ship better.
