Email infrastructure for AI agents

What AgentMail is building

AgentMail is rebuilding email infrastructure from scratch, not for humans, but for AI agents. Developers plug into their API to give agents their own real email inboxes, with the same two-way capabilities a human has: sending, receiving, threading, parsing, labelling, replying. The product integrates natively with Langchain, CrewAI, and LlamaIndex. Unlike transactional APIs that only send, AgentMail inboxes can hold a conversation. They also just launched an onboarding API that lets an agent sign itself up and create its own inbox autonomously, no developer in the loop required.

Why this matters

The agent economy just went mainstream. OpenClaw's viral launch in late January 2026 tripled AgentMail's user count in a single week and quadrupled it the following month. Gmail, Outlook, and SendGrid were built for humans. They cap API throughput, don't support programmatic inbox creation at scale, and treat high-volume agent sends as abuse. An agent booking meetings, handling support tickets, and negotiating vendor contracts needs the same email identity a human employee has. AgentMail is the first company to build that from the ground up. With 500+ B2B customers and hundreds of thousands of active agent users in just seven months of existence, the product has demonstrably hit a nerve.

Investors: General Catalyst (lead), Y Combinator, Phosphor Capital. Angels: Paul Graham, Dharmesh Shah (CTO, HubSpot), Paul Copplestone (CEO, Supabase), Karim Atiyeh (CTO, Ramp), Taro Fukuyama.

Hiring outlook

The press release is unusually direct: the money goes to 'expand the engineering team' and 'accelerate developer and agent adoption.' That's two separate hiring mandates, one technical, one growth-facing. YC's company page lists 4 open roles across operations, engineering, and marketing. The angel lineup is the most instructive signal - Dharmesh Shah, Paul Copplestone, Karim Atiyeh - these aren't passive cheques, this group patterns to companies that grow via developer advocacy, documentation quality, and community.

Working at AgentMail

Founded in , AgentMail is Email infrastructure for AI agents. They're now <50 people. Working at a B2B, Infrastructure company at this stage means broad remit, direct access to founders, and equity that still means something if the company works out.

Most openings are based out of San Francisco, CA, USA.

How to actually get hired at AgentMail

Why applying the normal way doesn't work

AgentMail is <50 people. No recruiter, no HR. Your application goes to a founder juggling everything. Cold outreach is how you actually get seen.

Who to contact at AgentMail

Who decides:a founder or department head
Best channel:LinkedIn or direct email
ATS:Ashby

Founding team

AS
Adi Singh
Co-Founder

Comes from the investor side - Accel, StepStone Group, and Flex Capital - before pivoting to operator. He also had prior operating experience across accounting, edtech, and e-commerce. That combination is unusual and valuable: a founder who understands what institutional investors look for and has lived through early-stage ops in multiple sectors. His LinkedIn post about the $6M round is public and warm. He is the right contact for operations, growth, and business roles.

HA
Haakam Aujla
Co-Founder & CEO

Haakam studied at the University of Michigan and worked as a quantitative researcher at Optiver, one of the most demanding quant trading firms in the world, known for hiring people who think rigorously about systems and edge cases. That background is visible in how AgentMail handles deliverability and abuse prevention: the product treats email infrastructure as an engineering problem with high-stakes constraints, not a messaging API bolted onto someone else's stack. He's been publicly active about the founding story and speaks with evident conviction about agent identity as a long-term infrastructure problem. Reachable at founders@agentmail.cc

MK
Michael Kim
Co-Founder

Previously worked on autonomous vehicles at Nvidia, a context that emphasises reliability under real-world conditions, low-latency decision systems, and complex distributed architecture. That engineering background informs AgentMail's infrastructure-first approach. University of Michigan graduate alongside Haakam and Adi.

What to show them

AgentMail is processing millions of emails, provisioning 25,000+ inboxes for a single enterprise customer, and handling the deliverability complexity (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounce rates, spam scoring) at scale. The founding trio - Optiver quant, Nvidia autonomous vehicles engineer, Accel investor - is technically strong but thin on headcount. Core skills: Python or Go, email protocol internals (SMTP, IMAP, MIME), deliverability (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), distributed systems, API design, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), experience building developer-facing APIs. For proof of work, build a small working proof-of-concept using AgentMail's public API: create 5 agent inboxes, have one agent send a structured email and another parse the reply and extract a key-value field. Write a technical README that notes where the current API has friction points and how you'd solve them. Post it publicly on GitHub.

A cold email that works at AgentMail

Subject: Backend / Infrastructure Engineer, [your one-line proof]
Hi Haakam, I built a quick proof-of-concept on AgentMail where one agent sends a vendor quote request and another parses the reply for pricing fields. In the README I flagged two API pain points I ran into and how I'd architect around them. Repo is public. Worth 15 minutes?

What AgentMail screens for

The angel lineup is the most instructive signal. Dharmesh Shah built HubSpot's developer ecosystem. Paul Copplestone runs Supabase, the canonical example of an open-source API product that grew through developer community, not sales. Karim Atiyeh (Ramp) built a fintech product with a legendary developer and ops culture. These aren't passive cheques.

Don't make these mistakes

Do not open with 'I love what you're building with AI agents' - every cold email they receive this week says exactly that. These founders left a quant firm, Nvidia, and Accel to build this; they respond to evidence, not enthusiasm. Do not ask for a call before showing you've used the product. The bar is simple: build something with AgentMail's API, find a friction point, tell them what you'd do about it.

Mistakes that kill AgentMail applications

Generic CVs stand out at a <50-person company — and not in a good way. Fastest path to rejection.

Don't open with what you want. Open with what AgentMail is dealing with right now — The agent economy just went mainstream, and what you'd do about it.

Applying and waiting = silence. Follow up at day five — it roughly doubles your odds of a reply.
