Hostie
hostie.ai · San Francisco · AI virtual concierge handling restaurants' calls, texts, reservations, and event inquiries
What they're building
Hostie is an AI-powered virtual concierge for restaurants: it answers the phone, handles texts, manages reservations and takeout inquiries, fields private-event requests, and answers guest questions so front-of-house staff can focus on the humans actually in the room. The numbers show it's already infrastructure, not a demo: more than 2 million guest conversations, 24 million messages, over 400,000 covers booked, and 50,000+ private event inquiries supported, per the company. Customers include Flour + Water Hospitality Group, Bacchus Management Group, Cactus Club Cafe, State Bird Provisions, and Wayfare Tavern. The founding insight is native: CEO Randall Hom co-owns Back to Back in San Francisco and built Hostie after watching his own team drown in guest communication volume.
Why this matters
Guest communication is the rare restaurant-AI use case that is high-volume, labor-intensive, revenue-sensitive, and badly served by existing tools — a missed call is often a missed booking. Hostie's edge is credibility with operators: the round includes investments from working restaurateurs (Bacchus's Tim Stannard, State Bird's Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski via Atomic Workshop), and its advisor bench includes the former CEO of OpenTable and a former Yelp VP of Engineering. Gradient's partner discovered the product by calling a restaurant and not realizing he was talking to it. As POS and reservation platforms bolt on automation, the winner will pair AI capability with real hospitality sensibility — and Hostie is the team most obviously built that way. Revenue grew 10x in a year against that backdrop.
